The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Charles City Comets on homecoming night in Class 3A, District 2 action at Lynx Field in Webster City. Webster City entered at 2-4 and 1-1 in district play, while Charles City entered at 3-3 and 0-2 in district play.
Webster City would strike first in the opening quarter with a 65-yard touchdown run by Cael Nixon to give the Lynx a 7-0 lead. That score would hold until the 2nd quarter, when Nixon found the endzone for the 2nd time on a 3-yard touchdown run to put the Lynx ahead 14-0. Charles City would not keel over, as Deacon Caspers scored on an 18-yard touchdown run to make the score 14-8 at halftime.
The 2nd half would see Charles City knot thing up out of the gate, as Deacon Caspers broke loose for his 2nd touchdown of the night on a 21-yard run to tie the game at 14-14. Webster City would respond with a 20-yard touchdown run by Jaxon Griffith to make the score 20-14, but Charles City’s John Bruening would return to ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown to put Charles City up 21-20 with a converted PAT. The Lynx would take over from that point, as Cael Nixon broke off a 29-yard touchdown run to put Webster City up 28-21 after a 2-point conversion, before Aiden Hrnicek (who filled in for Luke Estlund at spinner back) scored on a 3-yard run to make it 35-21. Nixon put the finishing touches on things with his 4th touchdown run of the night to give Webster City a 42-21 win.
Cael Nixon would have a monster night on the ground, rushing for 275 yards and 4 touchdowns on 34 carries. Jaxon Griffith added 121 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, while Aiden Hrnicek completed 1 pass for 17 yards and rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Webster City football returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to previously undefeated Algona in Class 3A, District 2 action, with kickoff at 7 PM.
