Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football knocked off by Okoboji on senior night, 49-21

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Pioneers of Okoboji in Class 2A, District 2 action for senior night at the Clarion Football Field. CGD entered at 1-5 and 0-3 in district play, while Okoboji entered at 4-2 and 2-1 in district play.

Okoboji started things off with a bang of Friday night, as freshman Rhyker Wright returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to put the Pioneers up 6-0. The Cowboys responded on their ensuing drive, putting together a long march on the ground capped off by an 11-yard touchdown run by JD Morrical to put CGD up 7-6. Okoboji answered right back with a 71-yard touchdown pass from Landon Duvall to Caleb Simington to put the Pioneers up 13-7. After a Cowboy three-and-out, the Pioneers marched down the field and scored on a 4-yard keeper by Landon Duvall to go up 20-7, before Duvall scored on another short run on the next possession as Okoboji led 27-7. Duvall would get one more score before half, this time on a 2-yard pass to Asa Jacobsen as Okoboji led 35-7 at the halftime intermission.

CGD struck first out of halftime, after forcing a stop of Okoboji, the Cowboys scored on a 37-yard run by Selvin Gonzalez to cut the score to 35-14. The Pioneers then went to their bag of tricks, as James Allden took an option pitch from Duvall and tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Avery Simington to put Okoboji up 42-14. CGD would score one more touchdown from Selvin Gonzalez, while Landon Duvall tossed one more touchdown pass as Okoboji came away with a 49-21 victory.

Selvin Gonzalez put together a monster day on the ground despite the loss, rushing for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns on 27 carries, while JD Morrical ran for 107 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday, when they wrap-up the regular season with a road trip to #1 Spirit Lake with kickoff at 7 PM.
