The Roland-Story Norsemen volleyball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the jog west on Highway 69 to Gilbert High School to take on the Gilbert Tigers and North Polk Comets in non-conference action. Roland-Story entered at 20-2 and ranked #13 in Class 3A, North Polk entered at 14-14, while Gilbert entered at 9-13.
Roland-Story opened their night with the Comets of North Polk, as North Polk came out of the gates hot, leading by as much as 7 in the opening set. However, the Norsemen rallied to take the opener 25-22, before a marathon of a 2nd set, which saw the Comets even things up with a 29-27 win. In set 3, Roland-Story jumped out to an early 11-4 before North Polk began to rally, but the Norsemen held on for a 15-11 win and a 2-1 win.
The Norsemen followed this up by taking on their county rivals in Gilbert, as the Tigers pounced on Roland-Story and led 23-19. However, Roland-Story reeled off 6 straight points to steal the opener by a 25-23 margin. Roland-Story would close things out in the 2nd set with a 25-18 win and a 2-0 sweep of the Tigers.
The KQWC Player of the Game was Roland-Story sophomore Brookelyn Jondle, who recorded a total of 28 kills between the 2 matches on Thursday. Kam Lande finished with a total of 15 kills between the two matches as well.
Roland-Story volleyball returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Tournament in Hampton, beginning at 9 AM.
