The South Hamilton Hawks football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Ogden Bulldogs in Class 1A, District 7 action for homecoming at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 2-3 and 2-0 in district play, while Ogden entered at 1-4 and 1-1 in district play.
Ogden started the night by marching the field and scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Cayden Dudley to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 after a failed 2-point attempt. South Hamilton responded quickly with a long touchdown drive of their own, as Braden Young scored on a QB keep from 9 yards out to tie the game at 6-6. Ogden would drive down midway through the 2nd quarter, but an errant snap on 1st and goal was scooped up by Braden Young for a 73-yard scoop and score to put South Hamilton up 14-6. South Hamilton would get one more score before half, as Braden Young found Jose Babcock on scramble drill for 26-yard completion to the 1-yard line, as Young score a couple of plays later with 12 seconds left to put South Hamilton up 20-6 at halftime.
The Hawks got the football to start the 2nd half, and would march down the field once more, scoring on a 7-yard touchdown run from Nick Severseike to put South Hamilton up 28-6. The Ogden offense would begin to reawaken in the 2nd half, as Cayden Dudley scored a 34-yard touchdown run to bring the score 28-12. Severseike would score his 2nd touchdown on the night on a 12-yard run to put the Hawks back up 34-12. Ogden would answer again before the end of the quarter, as quarterback CeJay Jones found Tyler Lass on 4th and 4 for a 23-yard touchdown pass to make the score 34-20. South Hamilton would go on a clock-draining drive, taking half the quarter off the clock and capping the drive on a Braden Young QB sneak to put the Hawks up 42-20. Ogden would strike quickly again, this time a 32-yard touchdown pass from CeJay Jones to Treyton Mitchell to bring the score to 42-28. South Hamilton punched in one more touchdown on a Braden Young QB sneak, as Ogden punched in another garbage time touchdown as South Hamilton settled on a 50-36 win.
The KQWC Player of the Game was South Hamilton senior QB/LB Braden Young, who threw for 34 yards, rushed for 64 yards and 4 touchdowns, while returning a fumble for a touchdown. Nick Severseike shoulder much of the load with Kolby Hodnefield out, as he ran for a career-high 209 yards and 2 touchdowns, while fullback Ashton Williams rushed for 68 yards on 13 carries.
South Hamilton football returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Woodward to take on the Woodward-Granger Hawks in Class 1A, District 7 action at Uthe Field with kickoff at 7 PM.
