Eagle Grove football falls against East Sac County, 38-6

The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Raiders of East Sac County in Class 1A, District 2 action for senior night at Gene Hinrichsen Field in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered at 0-6, while East Sac County entered at 2-3.

Both sides swapped possessions to start the game, but the Raiders got things going on their 2nd drive, as a Sam Julin 6-yard touchdown pass to Dawson Allen put the Raiders up 7-0. Eagle Grove would fumble on their ensuing possession, and East Sac would capitalize with a 17-yard touchdown run by Landon Grindle to put the Raiders up 14-0. Eagle Grove would get on the board on the following drive, aided by a pair of pass interference penalties, as Brett Ascherl snuck in from a yard out to cut the score to 14-6 after the failed 2-point conversion. The Eagles would get a pick off Sam Julin on the ensuing drive, but a fumble by the Eagles offense would allow the Raiders drive down the field and score on 6-yard run by Landon Grindle to put the Raiders up 20-6. East Sac would put up one more touchdown with 1 second left in the first half on a Sam Julin pass to Landon Grindle from 15 yards out to give East Sac a 26-6 halftime lead.

Eagle Grove’s offense would see their first 2 drives of the 2nd half end up inside the red zone, but come up with zero points. East Sac County got back on the board midway through the 4th quarter off an 8-yard touchdown pass from Sam Julin to Jack Gullett to make it 32-6, as the Raiders would pickup a garbage time touchdown to bring the final to 38-6.

Hayden Schafer had the top day on the ground, rushing for 90 yards on 23 carries, as Brett Ascherl ran for 59 yards on 15 carries and went 2-9 for 13 yards.

Eagle Grove football returns to action on Friday, as they travel to Emmetsburg to take on the (1A) #4 Emmetsburg E-Hawks at the Emmetsburg Football Complex at 7 PM.
