(2A) #10 Roland-Story football downs Greene County in Jefferson, 34-6

The Roland-Story Norsemen football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip west on Highway 30 to take on the Greene County Rams in Class 2A, District 8 action at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Roland-Story entered at 3-2 and ranked #10 in Class 2A, while Greene County entered at 2-3.

Roland-Story took the football first on Friday night and marched the field on the Rams defense, but a fumble gave Greene County the ball deep in their own end. The Rams were forced to punt, but the Norsemen were driven to a three-and-out on the ensuing possession, until Sam Knoll executed a fake punt pass to Luke Thoreson for first down into Greene County territory. The drive would be capped by an 8-yard touchdown run by Ben Mayzck to put Roland-Story up 6-0 after a missed PAT. Roland-Story would then put together a long drive in the 2nd quarter, as Ben Mazyck scored from 6 yards out to put the Norsemen up 13-0. Greene County would go 3-and-out on the ensuing possession, as Sam Knoll called his own number on the first play of the following drive, scampering 43 yards for a touchdown to give Roland-Story a 20-0 halftime lead.

Greene County would strike out of halftime, as quarterback Crew Conner went over the top to Nick Stream for a 55-yard touchdown pass to make the score 20-6. Roland-Story responded with another ground-heavy drive as Cody Long punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Norsemen up 27-6. The Norsemen would cap off the night with a 55-yard touchdown run by Ben Mazyck to give Roland-Story a 34-6 win.

Mazyck had a career-night on the ground, rushing for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Sam Knoll rushed for another 109 yards and a touchdown, while going 7-11 for 70 yards. Cody Long would rush for 56 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while amassing 10.5 tackles and 2 TFL on defense.

Roland-Story football returns to action on Friday night, when they host Des Moines Christian in a pivotal Class 2A, District 8 showdown at Kerry Van Winkle Field in Story City, with kickoff at 7:30 PM.
