Webster City, Eagle Grove cross country teams compete in Algona Invite

The Webster City Lynx and Eagle Grove Eagles cross country teams returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip north to Kossuth County to compete in the annual Algona Invitational at River Road Golf Club in Algona. The Lynx and Eagles were joined by the host Bulldogs, as well as Bishop Garrigan, Charles City, Clear Lake, Emmetsburg, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Forest City, Fort Dodge, GTRA, Humboldt, Mason City, North Union, Okoboji, Pocahontas Area, Sioux City North, Spencer, Spirit Lake, St. Edmond and West Bend-Mallard.

Webster City’s boys would place 11th in the boys meet with 261 points, with their top placer in junior Jack Barner, who finished 27th in 18:40.90. Justin Callahan was 28th in 18:41.40, Gabe Thumma was 54th in 19:46.40, Jackson Olmstead was 75th in 20:34.40, while Daniel Delfin rounded out scoring in 77th with a time of 20:43.50.

Eagle Grove boys would place 14th with 382 points, with their top placer in Hunter Waldo-Martinez, who placed 57th with a time of 19:54.40. Felix Reyes was 72nd in 20:25.70, Felix Gonzalez was 79th in 20:45.10, Dylan Beck was 87th in 21:18.20, while Asarel Castro rounded out scoring in 92nd with a time of 21:25.80.

Webster City’s girls would place 14th with 343 points, as Izzy Grossoehme had the top Lynx time by placing 28th in 23:06.10. Sydney Oswald placed 79th in 26:54.50, Lydia VanDeer was 80th in 26:57.40, Abby Peterson was 84th in 27:28.40, while Karina Murray finished scoring in 95th in a time of 30:19.70.

Eagle Grove’s girls would place 15th with 365 points, as Myka Anderson had the top time, finishing 39th in 24:02.10. Maria Perez finished 76th in 26:37.80, Gabriela Lobato was 89th in 28:34.40, Elizabeth Lopez was 92nd in 29:26.70, and Baylee Steig finished scoring in 93rd in a time of 29:27.00.

Webster City cross country returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the South Hardin Invitational at Pine Lake Country Club in Eldora. Eagle Grove cross country returns to action next Tuesday, when they host their home meet at the Eagle Grove golf course.
