The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returned to action on Friday night, as they welcomed in the Midgets of Estherville-Lincoln Central in Class 2A, District 2 action at CGD Middle School in Clarion. CGD entered Friday with a 1-3 record, while Estherville-Lincoln Central entered at 0-4.
The first quarter would be slugfest throughout, but the Midgets were able to break the seal on the game as quarterback Layton Yager found Sincere McMurrian for a big pass play down to the CGD 2, where Yager would find James Richard for a 2-yard TD pass to put ELC up 6-0 after a failed PAT. Scoring would again dry up until late in the 1st half, as Charlie Campbell strip sacked ELC quarterback Layton Yager and Cole Rothman recovered. JD Morrical would score on the very next play as CGD tied the game at 6-6 after a missed PAT going into halftime.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would turn the ball over on their first drive of the 2nd half of a JD Morrical pick, as the ensuing ELC drive ended with a Kale Shatto 2-yard touchdown run to put the Midgets up 12-6. CGD tried to get the offense going in the 2nd half, but no such luck was to be had with ELC providing the nail in the coffin late in the 4th quarter with a Layton Yager pick 6 to seal an 18-6 win for Estherville-Lincoln Central.
