The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team returns to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip to Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Clear Lake High School. CGD entered with a 3-15 record, while Clear Lake entered at 8-6.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows came out of the gates well, as they held off Clear Lake in the opening set by a score of 25-23. Clear Lake would bounce back and control the following 2 sets, winning each set with a score of 25-14 in both to take a 2-1 lead. However, CGD would not go down quietly, as the Cowgirls battled back to take the 4th set at 25-21 to send the match to a winner-take-all set. Clear Lake would have a late 14-12 lead in set 5, but CGD rallied for the last 4 points to stun the Lions at 16-14 and win 3-2.
Elliot Ennis had a big night for the Cowgirls, finishing with 16 kills and 3 blocks, while Blaire Askelsen and Claire Kirstein finished with 8 kills each for the Cowgirls.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Boone Tournament at Boone High School, beginning at 9 AM.
