The Webster City Lynx volleyball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip west on Highway 20 to Fort Dodge to take on the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at St. Edmond School. Webster City entered at 8-8, while St. Edmond entered at 10-5.
Webster City got out of the gates hot and dominated St. Edmond in the opening set 25-15. However, the Gaels flipped a switch in the 2nd set, and thanks to the help of 50/50 balls falling their way, held off Webster City in set 2 25-23, before doing the same in set 3, winning by a score of 25-21. Webster City would rally late in set 4 to take a 25-21 win as the match went to a winner-take-all 5th set. The Lynx led 14-13 in the 5th set, but a Sasha Hess service error clinched the come-from-behind victory for Webster City.
Marissa Hedeen put together an all-time night for the Lynx, finishing with a career-high 30 kills, match a single-game record in the Bound era set by Kaylee Schnathorst in a match against Algona in September 2012. Olivia Gallentine finished with 18 kills and 29 assists, while Tristyn Wright finished with 9 kills and 30 assists. Addilyn Orton finished with 9 kills and 4 blocks.
Webster City volleyball returns to action on Monday, when they host Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action at 7:30 PM at Webster City High School.
