The South Hamilton Hawks football team returns to action on Friday night, as they make the long trip south into Adair County to take on the Nodaway Valley Wolverines in Class 1A, District 7 action at Nodaway Valley High School in Greenfield. South Hamilton won last year’s meeting 66-14, the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Nodaway Valley enters with an 0-4 record after losses to Mount Ayr, Central Decatur, Shenandoah and their district opener to Woodward-Granger. Eli Harris is the senior signal caller for the Wolverines, and has thrown for 283 yards and a touchdown, but 9 interceptions. His favorite targets have been freshman Titan Foster and senior Garret Welsch, who’ve each caught 6 passes, while junior Keyin Steele has the only receiving touchdown. Ashton Honnold has been the most consistent ball carrier for the Wolverines, with 92 yards and 2 touchdowns, while senior Paul Berg has 7 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Wolverines linebackers have been big producers early in the season as Ashton Honnold leads the way with 21.5 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Caleb Christensen is the team’s leading tackler with 27.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. The defensive backfield has been a productive one with Garrett Welsch leading the way with 18 tackles, while Paul Berg leads the unit with 2 interceptions. The defensive line is led by the 1-2 punch of senior Trenton Warner and sophomore Lawson Jackson. Warner has accrued 17 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and a sack, while Jackson has 13.5 tackles, 6 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
South Hamilton will look to continue to build their ground game and use their playmakers, as Nick Severseike and Kolby Hodnefield look to help progress the Hawks wishbone attack. Titus Herrick could be in for another big game on the defensive line after 2 sacks against West Central Valley a week ago.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at Nodaway Valley High School in Greenfield.
