Webster City football downed in non-district finale by West Delaware, 49-7

The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the West Delaware Hawks at Lynx Field in Webster City’s non-district finale. Webster City entered at 1-2, while West Delaware entered at 0-2.

It would be a first quarter onslaught by the Hawks, putting up 28 points in the first quarter as West Delaware led 28-0 after the first quarter. The Hawks continued to add on to their total in the 2nd quarter with 14 more points, but Webster City would get on the board with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Luke Estlund to Jayden Weinzetl to make it 42-7 at the halftime break. West Delaware would add one more touchdown in the 3rd quarter for the 49-7 final.

Jaxon Griffith would lead Webster City in rushing, carrying 7 times for 77 yards, while Jayden Weinzetl had 3 carries for 43 yards. Luke Estlund went 1-5 for 33 yards and a touchdown in the game. West Delaware quarterback Brent Yonkovic went 7-10 for 214 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also rushing for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Webster City football returns to action on Friday night, when they open District 2 play by traveling north to take on Clear Lake at Lions Field at 7 PM.
