The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip up US Highway 69 to take on the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in both teams District 2 opener at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School. CGD entered at 1-2, while GHV entered at 1-3.
Both sides would trade punts to start the night, but the Cardinals struck big on their 2nd drive as Lane Gayken went up top to Gage Konz for a 59-yard touchdown pass to put GHV up 7-0. Following another Cowboy punt, the Cardinals would drive into Cowboy territory as Lane Gayken went up top again, this time to Nicholas Zrostlik for 19-yard touchdown pass to put GHV up 14-0, where the score would stand at halftime.
The 3rd quarter would go scoreless with the Cowboys moving the ball, but unable to punch in a touchdown. GHV put together a long drive in the 4th quarter, which was capped off by an 11-yard touchdown run by Lucas Kral, to bring the score to 21-0, which would be the final.
Caden Hauenstein would start at quarterback for an ill JD Morrical, going 3-10 for 24 yards and an interception. Charlie Campbell was the Cowboys leading rusher with 110 yards on 13 carries, while Bryce Lindaman would have a big game with 4 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football returns to action on Friday, when they host Estherville-Lincoln Central at CGD Middle School, beginning at 7 PM.
