The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team returned to action Thursday night, as they made the trip west to Fort Dodge to take on the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at St. Edmond School. CGD entered Thursday with a record of 3-9, while St. Edmond entered at 7-2.
Set 1 on Thursday would be a tight battle, but St. Edmond was able to hold off the Cowgirls for a 25-22 win in the opener. The Gaels then took command in the 2nd set, dominating en route to a 25-13 win in Set 2. The Cowgirls wouldn’t go down without a fight in the 3rd set, but it was St. Edmond coming out on top with a 25-20 win and a 3-0 sweep.
Thursday’s win was St. Edmond’s first-ever win over CGD in the Bound era (dating back to 2007). Elliot Ennis led the Cowgirls with 6 kills, 4 blocks and an ace on Thursday, while Blaire Askelsen finished with 4 kills and 5 blocks. Mariah Myers led St. Edmond with 13 kills on the night.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Forest City Tournament, beginning at 9 AM at Forest City High School.
