The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls and Eagle Grove Eagles volleyball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as the two Wright County rivals faced off with one another in non-conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows entered at 2-9, while Eagle Grove entered a 2-10.
The opening set would be a back-and-forth affair, as the match was tied late in the set. However, CGD would reel off a late run to seal a 25-21 win. Set 2 would be more controlled by the Cowgirls from start to finish, as they picked up a 25-18 win and 2-0 match lead. The 3rd set would come right down to the wire, as Eagle Grove made a late rally to tie it at 24-24, but CGD would prevail in extra rallies by a score of 27-25 to capture the 3-0 sweep.
CGD’s Player of the Game was senior middle hitter Elliot Ennis, who tallied a game-high 13 kills with 2 aces and a block. Eagle Grove’s Player of the Game was senior middle hitter Kendra Schild, who tallied 5 kills, 2 blocks and an ace.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond in NCC action at 7:30 PM. Eagle Grove returns to action next Tuesday, when they travel to Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in Top of Iowa West action at 7 PM.
