The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip south into Polk County to take on the (4A) #4 North Polk Comets in non-district action at North Polk High School in Alleman. Webster City entered at 1-1, while North Polk entered at 2-0.
North Polk got things going quickly, scoring on the first drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Feldman to Jake Hout to put the Comets up 6-0 after a failed PAT. Webster City would then touch the ball, but a botched handoff on a 3rd down was scooped up by the Comets Gabe Visalden and ran back for a touchdown to put the Comets up 13-0. The Lynx and Comets would trade stops until the 2nd quarter, as North Polk capped off a drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Feldman to Coen Spurgeon to put the Comets up 20-0. Disaster would strike again for the Lynx as a Jaxon Griffith fumble was picked up North Polk’s Brady Reinhart and returned 40 yards for a touchdown to put the Comets up 27-0. North Polk would add one more touchdown and a 2-point conversion before halftime off a BJ Tate 25-yard touchdown run to put the Comets up 35-0 at halftime.
Webster City would come out and perform on the 1st drive of the 2nd half, as Cael Nixon punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to cut the score to 35-6. North Polk would respond by punching in a 2nd BJ Tate touchdown to put the Comets up 41-6. Webster City’s defense would make a big play in the 4th quarter to force a safety and bring the final score to 41-8.
Cael Nixon would be the Lynx’s leading rusher with 96 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, while Jaxon Griffith had 8 carries for 64 yards, while also catching a pass for 14 yards. Luke Estlund would go 2-for-6 with 25 yards on the night.
Webster City football returns to action on Friday night, when they host West Delaware in their non-district finale at Lynx Field with kickoff at 7 PM.
