Clarion-Goldfield-Dows falls short in homecoming battle with Southeast Valley, 20-13

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-district action at the Clarion Football Field for homecoming. The Cowboys entered at 1-1, while Southeast Valley also entered at 1-1.

Friday’s first quarter would be a slug fest with neither team finding the endzone in the opening frame. Southeast Valley would break the gridlock with a Cale Vansickle quarterback sneak at the midway point of the 2nd quarter to put the Jaguars up 6-0 after a failed 2-point conversion. CGD would have an immediate answer as JD Morrical went deep and found Huxley Lingenfelter all alone for a 63-yard touchdown pass to put the Cowboys up 7-6. Southeast Valley would take the lead back right before half as Vansickle found receiver Logan Jaeschke in the near corner of the endzone for an 8-yard touchdown pass to put the Jaguars up 12-7 at the halftime break.

The 2nd half started off with a bang as Charlie Campbell ripped off a 54-yard touchdown run on the first play of the half to put the Cowboys up 13-12. Southeast Valley wound answer later in the 3rd as Cale Vansickel ripped off a 56-yard touchdown run to put the Jaguars up 20-13 with a 2-point conversion. The 4th quarter would be a defensive grudge match with the Cowboys unable to knot the score as Southeast Valley came away with a 20-13 win.

JD Morrical would go 6-for-8 for 108 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another 24 yards on Friday. Charlie Campbell would rush for 94 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while Huxley Lingenfelter caught 3 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.
