The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the short drive west on old Highway 20 to take on the Fort Dodge Dodgers in non-district action at Dodger Stadium. Webster City entered winning all 3 matchups since 2021, the year the rivalry restarted.
Friday would not start swimmingly for the Lynx, as Fort Dodge’s Noah Daniel ran the opening kickoff back 92 yards for a touchdown to put Fort Dodge up 7-0. Webster City would have a response, putting together a nearly 5-minute drive capped off by a Luke Estlund 5-yard touchdown run to make it 7-7. The remainder of the 1st quarter would go scoreless, as did much of the 2nd quarter before the Lynx put together a scoring drive that was capped off by a Jayden Weinzetl 13-yard touchdown run with 5 seconds left in the half to put the Lynx up 13-7. However, Fort Dodge hit the equalizer as time expired in the 1st half as Noah Daniel ran his 2nd kickoff back for a touchdown to make it 13-13 at halftime.
The 2nd half started the same way as the 1st half, this time it was Webster City doing damage on special teams as Jaxon Griffith ran the opening kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown to put Webster City up 20-13. Fort Dodge would fumble on the ensuing possession, giving the Lynx a short field that would result in a Luke Estlund 4-yard touchdown run to put Webster City up 27-13. Fort Dodge would put together a drive on the following possession, but a strip sack of Tru McBride gave Webster City the football back. The Lynx would again capitalize as quarterback Luke Estlund broke lose for a 29-yard touchdown run to put the Lynx up 34-13, before Jaxon Griffith put the the cherry on top with a 62-yard touchdown run to seal a 41-13 win for Webster City.
Webster City would have a solid first outing on the ground, rushing for 331 yards, with Jaxon Griffith leading the way with 145 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. Luke Estlund scored a hat trick with 3 touchdown runs on 88 yards, while Jayden Weinzetl rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown as well. Aiden Hrnicek would rack up a team-high 6.5 tackles as well as a sack.
