Test run for new boom truck for Hamilton County Conservation proved to be a success.

The new $35,000 boom truck that was donated to the Hamilton County Conservation Department by Dean Bowden of Webster City was demonstrated Thursday morning at Little Wall Park south of Jewell. The truck will be used to help take down tree limbs in the parks,picnc and conservation areas. Hamilton County Conservation director Brian Lammers said that Bowden witnessed the work by the new truck and liked the work being done.
The board went on a tour of Little Wall Lake Park Thursday morning for strategic planning purposes..There is a possibility of future projects incuding a new lodge, campground improvements and more. A barbecue meal was served to the board at the conclusion of Thursday’s tour.
A new park ranger will begin his duties next month at Briggs Woods Park. Zach Wesselink of Ankeny is a recent graduate of Iowa State University. He has been working at the campground facility at Saylorville Lake with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers near Des Moines. Wesselink’s first day on the job will be on August 12.
Requests to add a swing set at Little Wall Lake Park have been received in recenter weeks. The cost to install a set will be at $10,000. Lammers said there are plans for some fund raising events for the project in the coming months.
There were approximately 44 golf teams that participated in the Hamiilton County Peace Officers Golf benefit on July 20th. The event was to help raise funds for the family of Algona Police officer Kevin Cram who died last September. Final figures from the event will be announced by the association in the next few weeks.
The next meeting of the Hamilton County Conservation Board will be Tuesday, August 20 at 9:30 at the conservation office in Briggs Woods Park.
