2024 KQRadio All-Area Softball Teams and Awards

The 2024 softball season for the KQRadio area has come and gone, with many talented seniors giving their last hoorah, while many newcomers burst on to the scene and became names to know over the coming years.

Player of the Year: Delainey Bargfrede, Sr. P/1B (Webster City)

Hitting Stats – .376 AVG/.415 OBP/.553 SLG/.968 OPS, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 8 R, 32 H, 23 H, 5 2B, 2 3B

Pitching Stats – 24 appearances, 21 starts, 15-6 record, 138.1 IP, 1.16 ERA, 20 BB, 218 K, 23 ER allowed, .186 BAA

Bargfrede captures player of the year honors for the 2nd consecutive year, as she showcased her dominance in the circle, while becoming an even bigger threat at the plate.

Pitcher of the Year: Delainey Bargfrede, Sr. (Webster City)

Bargfrede sweeps the first two awards for the second year in a row. The Western Kentucky-commit ranked #6 in Class 4A in ERA, #6 in strikeouts and #2 in walks allowed for pitchers with over 100 innings pitched.

Defensive Player of the Year: Kendra Hoversten, Sr. C (South Hamilton)

Stats – .277 AVG/.362 OBP/.398 SLG/.760 OPS, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 3 R, 23 H, 17 1B, 4 2B, .957 fielding percentage, 6 errors, 120 putouts, 15 assists, 7 thrown out stealing, 45 stolen bases allowed

The Hawks senior catcher became a weapon behind the plate, tying for 3rd in the Heart of Iowa Conference with 7 runners caught stealing, while ranking #3 in least stolen bases allowed amongst everyday catchers in the conference.

Newcomer of the Year: Emma Lammers, 8th Grade, SS (South Hamilton)

Stats – .291 AVG/.326 OBP/.419 SLG/.745 OPS, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 16 R, 5 SB, 25 H, 19 1B, 3 2B, 1 3B

Lammers stepped into a starting role as an 8th grader an became one of the top run-producers in South Hamilton’s resurgent offense in 2024. Lammers was tied for 2nd in home runs for 8th graders in the conference, while her 24 RBI was tied for 6th in the conference overall.

Coach of the Year: Jim McLaughlin (Eagle Grove)

McLaughlin wins our Coach of the Year award for the 2nd year in a row, leading the Eagles to their best record since 2015 and a game away to what could’ve been the Eagles first State Tournament appearance in 20 years.

First-Team All-Area

Catcher – Kendra Hoversten, Sr. (South Hamilton)

First Base – Maddison Kaiser, Sr. (Eagle Grove)

Stats – .344 AVG/.512 OBP/.531 SLG/1.043 OPS, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 18 R, 8 SB, 11 H, 7 1B, 3 2B, .970 fielding percentage, 97 putouts, 3 errors

Kaiser proved to be a valuable senior leader for an Eagles team that wound up a game away from the state tournament, helping lead an Eagles defense that ranked 3rd in the Top of Iowa West. Kaiser also provided consistent production at the plate as well.

Second Base – Crystal Flores, So. (Eagle Grove)

Stats – .275 AVG/.306 OBP/.348 SLG/.654 OPS, 11 RBI, 17 R, 1 SB, 19 H, 14 2B, 5 2B, .910 fielding percentage, 30 putouts, 51 assists, 8 errors

Flores proved to be a rock at 2nd base for the Eagles, and her bat delivered a clutch walk-off single against Southeast Valley to send Eagle Grove to the Regional Final. Flores was one of 5 Eagles with a .900 or higher fielding percentage.

Shortstop – Addy Jeske, Jr. (Eagle Grove)

Stats – .463 AVG/.484 OBP/.561 SLG/1.045 OPS, 15 RBI, 31 R, 33 SB, 38 H, 33 1B, 2 2B, 3 3B, .868 fielding percentage, 50 putouts, 42 assists, 14 errors

Jeske grabs first-team shortstop honors for the 2nd year in a row, again leading Eagle Grove in batting average and hits, while cleaning up her defense some from 2023. Jeske’s 33 stolen bases was tied for 3rd in the conference with teammate Tarissa Middleton.

Third Base – Kate Berggren, Jr. (Roland-Story)

Stats – .330 AVG/.410 OBP/.375 SLG/.785 OPS, 15 RBI, 16 R, 5 SB, 29 H, 25 1B, 4 2B, .853 fielding percentage, 27 putouts, 83 assists, 19 errors

Kate Berggren balanced a tough job playing the hot corner while learning the position in her junior campaign, but by season’s end became arguably the most improved player in the Norsemen’s lineup.

Outfield – Addy Tesdahl, Sr. (Webster City)

Stats – .323 AVG/.383 OBP/.469 SLG/.852 OPS, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 27 R, 24 SB, 31 H, 24 1B, 3 2B, 1 3B, .886 fielding percentage, 31 putouts, 4 errors

The leader of the Webster City outfield was stellar in her final year in the purple and gold, tying for the team lead in home runs (3) and leading the team in stolen bases (24), which was good for 4th in the NCC. Tesdahl’s range in the outfield made life hard for opposing hitters.

Outfield – Tanna Thompson, Sr. (South Hamilton)

Stats – .314 AVG/.427 OBP/.407 SLG/.834 OPS, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 30 R, 20 SB, 27 H, 22 1B, 3 2B, 1 3B, .971 fielding percentage, 32 putouts, 1 error, 1 assist

Thompson provided consistency at the top of the lineup all season long for the resurgent Hawks, her .314 average sitting 3rd on the team in 2024. Thompson’s speed on the bases in the outfield consistently frustrated opponents throughout the year as well.

Outfield – Nadia Kaiser, Sr. (Eagle Grove)

Stats – .340 AVG/.386 OBP/.460 SLG/.846 OPS, 23 RBI, 13 R, 5 SB, 17 H, 13 1B, 2 2B, 2 3B, .938 fielding percentage, 15 putouts, 1 error

Kaiser led the Eagles in RBI, despite missing a handful of games at the end of the regular season, but her timely bat was crucial to the Eagles 17 wins in the 2024.

Utility – Makena Galetich, Sr. (South Hamilton)

Stats – .318 AVG/.351 OBP/.455 SLG/.806 OPS, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 18 R, 7 SB, 28 H, 21 1B, 4 2B, 1 3B, 20 appearances, 20 starts, 10-10 record, 122.1 IP, 4.52 ERA, 74 K, 47 BB, 79 ER allowed, .309 BAA

Galetich returned from her knee injury in 2023 and was the embodiment in the Hawks improvement following a 4-win 2023 season. Galetich proved to be a great glove in the circle, and added more power to the South Hamilton lineup.
