Roland-Story baseball falls short to Aplington-Parkersburg in Marshalltown, 2-1

The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the drive east to take on the Falcons of Aplington-Parkersburg in their Class 2A, Substate 2 Final at Marshalltown High School. Roland-Story entered at 16-17, while Aplington-Parkersburg entered at 17-7.

After a scoreless 1st, the Falcons would scratch across 2 runs in the 2nd to take a 2-0 lead. The pitchers duel would continue until the 6th, when Colin Willis scored on a Cooper Triggs RBI single to bring the score to 2-1. Roland-Story was able to get a runner to 2nd in the 7th, but a ground out to the pitcher ended the ballgame as A-P held on for a 2-1 win.

Cooper Triggs would go 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Gavin Jeter was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Brett Schmitz would go 2-for-3 in his final game as a Norsemen, while Cael Faber pitched the complete game, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 4.

Aplington-Parkersburg advances to next week’s Class 2A State Tournament, where they’ll take on Northeast Iowa Conference Champions New Hampton at Merchants Park in Carroll at 7 PM. Roland-Story’s season ends with a record of 16-18.
