The Eagle Grove Eagles softball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the long trek east to take on the Bobcats of Benton Community in the Class 3A, Region 4 final. Eagle Grove entered at 17-7, while Benton entered at 30-7 and ranked #1 in Class 3A.
The top-ranked Bobcats would not waste team in seizing the opportunity in front of them, as they got on the board thanks to a long 2-run home run from pitcher Jessa DeMoss to take a 2-0 lead, before an Eagle error allowed another run to score as Benton lead 3-0 after the first. Benton would pick up a run in the 2nd off a sac fly, followed by 2 runs in the 4th, and 4 runs in the 5th as Jessa DeMoss sent the Bobcats to the state tournament with an RBI single in a 10-0, 5 inning victory.
Addy Jeske, Nadia Kaiser and Brooklyn Osborn recorded all 3 hits for the Eagles, as Osborn was charged with the loss in the circle.
Benton Community opens the state tournament on Tuesday as the top-seed in Class 3A, and face conference foe Solon at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. Eagle Grove’s season ends with a record of 17-8, their best record since going 22-13 in 2015.
