The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they opened their Class 4A, Region 2 bracket by hosting the Nevada Cubs at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 16-12, while Nevada entered at 10-21.
Webster City got off to a hot start, as Ava Peterson drove in a run on an RBI single, followed by Morgan Hackbarth launching a bases-clearing double to put the Lynx ahead 4-0. Webster City added a run in the 2nd on a Delainey Bargfrede sac fly, before adding a Jakaela Cherry run in the 4th to go up 6-0. Nevada would get a run across on a Jorie Hillman sac fly, but Webster City would lock down a 6-1 victory.
Morgan Hackbarth went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, while Ava Peterson was 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI. Delainey Bargfrede was dominant in the circle, pitching the complete game allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 11.
Webster City advances to face Gilbert on Saturday night in the Class 4A, Region 2 semifinal at Gilbert High School. First pitch will be at 7 PM and can be heard on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
