Webster City baseball falls short against Waverly-Shell Rock, 5-4

The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock in non-conference action for senior night at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 17-12, while Waverly-Shell Rock entered at 21-12.

The first two innings would go scoreless on Tuesday, before Waverly-Shell Rock got on the board with a Grant Parker RBI double to take a 1-0 lead, as the Go-Hawks added on another run in the 4th with a Gehrig Tibbitts RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. The Go-Hawks would add 3 runs in the 6th off a steal of home and 2 Webster City errors to go up 5-0. Webster City would mount a rally with 2 runs in the 6th off a Trevyn Lyons 2-run RBI single, followed by a 2 runs in the 7th with a Josh Stansfield 2-run RBI single, but the Lynx could not complete comeback in a 5-4 loss.

Josh Stansfield would go 1-for-2 with a 2-run RBI single, while Trevyn Lyons was 1-for-3 with a 2-run RBI single. Alex Staley was charged with the loss, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 2 hits and striking out 3 batters.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Friday night, when they open their Class 3A, Substate 2 bracket with North Central Conference champions Algona at Algona High School with first pitch at 7 PM on 92.9/1570 KZWC or online at kqradio.com.
