South Hamilton baseball ends season at BCLUW, 2-1

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Monday night, in a continuation of their Class 1A, Substate 2 opener against BCLUW. The game was moved from Jewell to Beaman due to unplayable field conditions in Jewell on Monday night.

BCLUW got on the board with an RBI Groundout from Aiden Frank to take a 1-0 lead. The Comets extended their lead with Ryan Busch scoring on a wild pitch in the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. That lead would hold into the 7th, when South Hamilton mounted a last gasp rally, as Owen Duns was hit by a pitch to bring in a run with the bases loaded, but Landon Sogard would ground out to 1st to end the game with a final of 2-1.

Ryland Ubben would go 2-for-3 on Monday with 2 singles and a run scored, while Preston Van De Pol, Owen Duns and Lanson Sogard all contributed hits. Ryland Ubben was the losing pitcher of record, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 8.

BCLUW advances to face top-seeded Mason City Newman on Tuesday night at 7 PM. South Hamilton’s season ends with a record of 10-11.
