The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action at CGD High School. CGD entered with a record of 10-16, while Iowa Falls-Alden entered at 4-16.
Tuesday’s game started scoreless until the 4th, when IF-A put up 2 runs on a Brooks Hickman RBI single, followed by Ray Morgan Jr. stealing home to take a 2-0 lead. That lead would hold until the 6th, when CGD scored 2 runs off a Landen Kakacek RBI ground out, and Owen Sweeney scored on a passed ball to tie the game. The game would go into extra innings, when Landen Kakacek stepped up once more with a walk-off RBI single to give the Cowboys a 3-2 win.
Landen Kakacek would go 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Mason Allen went 1-for-3. Wyatt DeCoster picked up the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing no runs on 1 hit and striking out 1. Carson Nesheim pitched a no-decision, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 11.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Saturday, when they take on Eagle Grove in their Class 2A, Substate 2 1st round match up at South Hardin High School in Eldora at 5 PM.
