The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip west into Pocahontas County to take on the Pocahontas Area Indians in non-conference action at the PAC Athletic Complex. South Hamilton entered at 9-10, while Pocahontas Area entered at 14-9.
South Hamilton took an initial 1-0 lead after the 1st, before putting 2 runs in the 3rd, followed by a 5-spot in the 4th to take an 8-0 lead. Pocahontas answered with a run in the bottom of the 4th to bring to 8-1, but South Hamilton added a run each in the 6th and 7th, with a Pocahontas run sandwiched between as the Hawks capped a 10-2 victory.
Tjerdan Johnson would have a big night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, 3 RBI and 2 single, while Landon Sogard was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and a single. Preston Van De Pol was the winning pitcher, going 4 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 4.
South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Saturday, when they host BCLUW in their Class 1A, Substate 3 first round matchup at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex at 7 PM.
