The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip into Webster County to take on the Southeast Valley Jaguars at the Southeast Valley Baseball Field in Dayton. Eagle Grove entered with a record of 13-9, while Southeast Valley entered at 8-11.
Eagle Grove started off the night with a bang, as senior Jake Jeske belted a solo home run to put the Eagles up 1-0. The Eagles followed up in the 2nd with a Syrus Willard bases-clearing double to put the Eagles up 4-0. Southeast Valley would get 3 runs in the 3rd off an Eagle Grove error and a wild pitch to bring the score to 4-3, but the Eagles responded by scoring a run off a Jaguar error in the 5th to lead 5-3. Eagle Grove got 3 more runs across on a Jake Jeske RBI double, a wild pitch and a Nolan Krauss RBI double to go up 8-3. The Eagles added one more run in the 7th to capture a 9-3 win.
Jake Jeske would have a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and 2 RBI, while Syrus Willard went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Nolan Krauss picked up the win, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 1 hit and striking out 12 batters.
Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Algona to take on Bishop Garrigan in Top of Iowa West action at 7:30 PM.
