South Hamilton softball falls short at (1A) #5 Collins-Maxwell, 3-1

The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip down to Story County to take on the (1A) #5 Collins-Maxwell Spartans in non-conference action at the Collins-Maxwell softball field in Collins. South Hamilton entered at 13-15, while Collins-Maxwell entered at 23-2.

Collins-Maxwell would strike first by driving in a run on a Haylee Merryman sac fly to put the Spartans up 1-0, before the Spartans drove in another run on a South Hamilton error to make it 2-0. Scoring would stall until the 5th, when Collins-Maxwell drove in another run on an Erica Hogue RBI double to make it 3-0, but South Hamilton answered in the 6th as Makena Galetich drove in Tanna Thompson on a sac fly to make it 3-1. South Hamilton was unable to drive in any runs in the 7th as Collins-Maxwell held on for a 3-1 win.

Makena Galetich would not record a hit on Thursday, but drove in the Hawks only run. Ashlyn Erickson, Emma Lammers and Kendra Hoversten would all collect hits on Thursday. Galetich did pitch the complete game, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 2 batters.

South Hamilton softball returns to action on July 8th, when they host Grundy Center for the first round of their Class 2A, Region 6 bracket at 7 PM and can be heard on 95.7 KQWC or online at kqradio.com.
