The South Hamilton Hawks and Roland-Story Norsemen softball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they renewed their long-standing rivalry at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 12-15, while Roland-Story entered at 7-18.
Both sides would trade a run in the first to have the game tied at 1-1. The 3rd would see both teams come away with 2 runs each to have the score tied at 3-3 after 3 innings, but South Hamilton would begin to pull away with 2 runs in 4th and 3 runs in the 6th to take an 8-3 lead. The Norsemen would not go quietly, mounting a 7th inning rally with 3 runs, but the Hawks would escape for an 8-6 victory and the Hawks first season sweep of Roland-Story since 2019.
Tanna Thompson would go 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored, while Sydnee Flaugh had an RBI and Lillie Ammerman went 1-for-1 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Makena Galetich would go 1-for-4 with 3 RBI, while also pitching the complete game, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits and striking out 4.
Kate Berggren would go 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI for Roland-Story, while Peyton Jeter was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Miley Geise picked up the loss, going 5.1 innings and allowing 8 runs on 7 hits and 3 strikeouts.
South Hamilton returns to action on Thursday night, when they travel to Story County to take on (1A) #4 Collins-Maxwell in Collins at 7:15 PM. Roland-Story returns to action on Thursday, when they host South Hardin in non-conference action at the Hennessey Diamonds in Roland at 7:30 PM.
