The Eagle Grove Eagles softball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the North Union Warriors in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park. Eagle Grove entered Tuesday with a record of 12-5, while North Iowa entered at 14-9.
North Union took an early lead with a run in the top of the 1st to make it 1-0, only to be immediately answered with 3 Eagle Grove runs to put the Eagles ahead 3-1. A scoreless 2nd gave way to a prosperous 3rd inning for the Warriors, putting up 5 runs to take a 6-3 lead, before adding a run in the 4th to make it 7-3. Eagle Grove would then mount a comeback, putting up 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 7-6, before 3 more runs in the 6th to take a 9-7 lead, before holding off the Warriors for Eagle Grove’s first-ever win over the perennial Top of Iowa Conference powerhouse.
Crystal Flores had the top day for Eagle Grove on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, while Brooklyn Osborn contributed an RBI on a sacrifice. Mya Morgan would pick up the win in relief, allowing no runs on 2 hits and striking out 1 batter in 3.2 innings.
Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Wednesday night, when they travel to Buffalo Center to take on North Iowa in Top of Iowa West action at 6 PM.
