South Hamilton baseball holds off Nevada, 3-2

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School. South Hamilton entered at 6-10, while Nevada entered at 8-10.

Thursday’s matchup would be tight throughout, as Nevada fired the first shot as Connor King drove in Colton Pedersen to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead. South Hamilton would answer as Connor Deppe drove in Ryland Ubben on an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd. The Hawks would then take the lead on an Andrew Jensen RBI single that scored Owen Duns to put the Hawks up 2-1 in the 3rd. Nevada would answer in the 5th with a Jackson Burlage RBI single that drove in Connor King to tie the game at 2-2, but the Hawks took the lead back as Braden Young scored on an error to make it 3-2. Ryland Ubben would enter in relief and pick up the save in the 3-2 win.

Andrew Jensen would go 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Ryland Ubben was 1-for-3 with a double. Landon Sogard picked up the win, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 5. Ryland Ubben collected the save, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out 2.

South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Prairie City to take on PCM in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 7:30 PM.
