Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball walks off West Hancock for first win, 6-5

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they welcomed in the West Hancock Eagles in non-conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. CGD entered with a record of 0-15, while West Hancock entered at 1-14.

West Hancock would put up a run in the 1st, only to be answered in the bottom of the frame with a Graclyn Bremmer 2-run RBI double to make it 2-1 CGD. The Cowgirls added a run in the 3rd with a Nyla Wibholm RBI single to make it 3-1. West Hancock answered with a run in the 4th, before a 2-run 5th to take a 4-3 lead. CGD answered in the bottom of the frame as Paige Brooks scored on a passed ball to tie it at 4-4. West Hancock took the lead with a run in the top of the 7th, but CGD would score on consecutive passed balls as Madi Ingebritson tied the game, before Blaire Askelsen scored on the next pitch to walk off a 6-5 victory.

Gracelyn Bremmer went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 doubles, while Nyla Wibholm went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tess Wibholm threw the complete game, allowing 5 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 9 in the win.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Friday, when they host Clear Lake in North Central Conference action at 7:30 PM.
