The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton entered with a record of 11-12, while Nevada entered at 6-15.
South Hamilton struck first in the bottom of the 1st off a pair of passed balls to take a 2-0 lead. Nevada would then take the lead off an error, followed by RBI from Jadyn Melohn and Maycie Mailey to take a 4-2 lead. The Hawks responded with a 2-run RBI double from Ashlyn Erickson, who later scored on a passed ball, before Claire Hewitt drove in another run on an RBI groundout to make it 6-4 Hawks. South Hamilton would build their lead from there, putting up 2 runs in the 4th, before a 7-run 5th inning that saw Kendra Hoversten walk the game off early with a 2-run home run to give South Hamilton a 15-4 win.
Kendra Hoversten went 1-for-2 with a home run and 3 RBI, while Ashlyn Erickson went 1-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Makena Galetich picked up the win, allowing 4 runs (0 earned) on 5 hits and 8 strikeouts.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Saturday, as they host their home tournament at South Hamilton High School against Algona, Iowa Falls-Alden and Southeast Valley.
