The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they took on the Ankeny Christian Eagles in non-conference action at historic Walt Anderson Field in Rippey. Roland-Story entered with a record of 12-9, while Ankeny Christian entered at 12-3.
Scoring would be minimal through much of the game, but Roland-Story would put up a run in the 2nd and 3rd to take a 2-0 lead, before doubling it with a 2-run 5th to make it 4-0. From there the game turned into a wild one, as ACA tied the game with 4 runs in the 6th, before Roland-Story took the lead back with 3 runs in the 6th to make it 7-4. ACA would rally again, tying the game once more with 3 runs in the 7th to make it 7-7. However, Brett Schmitz would play the hero for the Norsemen in the 7th, driving in the winning run on a walk-off single to give Roland-Story an 8-7 win.
Brett Schmitz would go 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a double, while Sam Knoll went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and an inside-the-park home run. Collin Willis picked up the win in relief, pitching the final 2/3rds of the 7th and allowing no runs on 1 hit, as Cael Faber pitched the first 6.1 innings.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they host PCM in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Norsemen Field in Story City at 7:30 PM.
