The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip to the Cownie Sports Complex to take on the Grand View Christian Thunder in non-conference action in Des Moines. South Hamilton entered at 4-8, while Grand View Christian entered at 12-5.
Grand View Christian struck first, as shortstop Austin Jordan scored on a wild pitch to put the Thunder ahead 1-0. South Hamilton answered in the 2nd as Braden Young and Ryland Ubben collected RBI singles to put the Hawks up 2-1. Grand View Christian would wait until the 4th to tie things up, as Nate Riley’s RBI double made it 2-2. South Hamilton took the lead right back on a 5th-inning rundown that allowed Owen Duns to score before Landon Sogard was tagged for the 3rd out, which put the Hawks ahead 3-2. Grand View Christian would respond again, as the Thunder plated 2 runs to take a 4-3 lead. After an insurance run in the 6th, GVC struck out the South Hamilton side in the 7th to collect a 5-3 win.
Ryland Ubben went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, while Braden Young went 1-for-3 with an RBI single. Young was charged with the loss, going 4.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and striking out 3 batters.
South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Friday night, as the Hawks host Southeast Valley in non-conference action at South Hamilton High School at 7:30 PM.
