The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they welcomed in the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton entered with a record of 3-8, while Perry entered with a record of 6-9.
Perry was first on the board with a run in the 1st, but South Hamilton answered as Landon Sogard belted his 2nd home run of the year, this one a grand slam as South Hamilton jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Perry got 2 runs back in the 2nd to bring the score to 4-3. The score remained until the 5th inning, when Tjerdan Johnson drove in Preston Van De Pol on an RBI triple, before Owen Duns drove Johnson in on an RBI single to put the Hawks up 6-3. The Bluejays would mount a rally in the 7th, scoring 2 runs off an RBI from Juan Diego Beato-Amparo to bring the score 6-5, but Gabriel Beato-Amparo grounded to 3rd with the bases loaded to end the game.
Landon Sogard would go 1-for-4 with his 1st inning grand slam, while Tjerdan Johnson went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Preston Van De Pol was the winning pitcher, going 6.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits and striking out 4 batters.
South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Thursday night, as they travel to Des Moines to take on Grand View Christian in non-conference action at the Cownie Sports Complex at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
