The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton entered Wednesday with a record of 7-9, while Perry entered with a record of 5-7.
Perry would strike first on Wednesday, plating 2 runs off an Emmalee Bell RBI double to put the Jayettes up 2-0, before South Hamilton tied the game in the bottom of the 1st off an Ashlyn Erickson RBI single and a Jayette error at 2-2. Perry took the lead back in the 2nd off a Karagyn Whelchel, but the Hawks knotted things back up with an RBI single by Tanna Thompson to make it 3-3. South Hamilton bats would continue to heat up, as Emma Lammers slammed an RBI triple off the fence, before Kendra Hoversten drove her in to make it 5-3. After a Perry run in the 4th, the Hawk bats blew the lid off the game with a 4-run 4th, highlighted by an Emma Lammers 3-run home run to make it 9-4. Makena Galetich got in on the fun in the 6th, as she launched a 2-run home run to left to put the Hawks up 11-4 and cruise to the final of 11-4.
Emma Lammers would come up a single shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a double and 4 RBI, while Makena Galetich went 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI. Galetich also picked up the win in the circle, pitching the complete game and allowing 4 runs off 8 hits and striking out 3.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Friday, when they open the Kiwanis Tournament at Roland-Story with Iowa Falls-Alden at 9 AM.
