The South Hamilton Community School Board on Monday evening approved a sharing agreement for the duties of superintendent with Heather Holm with the United Community School District in rural Boone. The contract for Holm was amended with her additional duties. The operational sharing program from the Iowa Department of Education provides monetary incentives for districts that share qualifying positions, allowing each district to count nine additional students in the October enrollment count. The agreement is pending approval from the United Community School District.
The South Hamilton Board approved resignations from Leah Consier as an elementary teacher, Dan Brodie as assistant high school football coach and head girls track coach, Jacquelyn Edeker with food services, Aaron Sanders for evening custodian and Mike Grove as assistant high school boys basketball coach. There were the following hirings for South Hamilton. They include Darrell Paulsen as interim girls cross country coach for one year, Liz Smith as elementary special education teacher, Corey Klemp for high school assistant football coach and Karl Corbin as junior high girls softball coach.
A 28-E Risk Pool Agreement with the Ellsworth Jewell Stanhope (EJS) Police Department for a school resource officer to be paid with Management Funds was approved Monday evening by the school board. This is pending approved from the EJS Police Department.
In other matters, the South Hamilton board approved the low bid for the International School Bus from Hoglund Bus Company for $151,000 and an additional $15,000 for air conditioning. The bus will be used primarily for activities and field trips.
South Hamilton’s Summer School program is going well with 54 students attending with the planning for the next school year underway.
Demolition on the school playground started this week. A new softball press box installation project is underway. Kruck Plumbing and Heating has been doing preventative maintenance on the HVAC system at South Hamilton. Upgrades to the secury entry way have been started. The roof leaks have been repaired on older sections of the roof. The refinishing to the gym floor is scheduled for this summer.
The South Hamilton School Board approved a technology support agreement with the AEA (Area Education Agency) for $61,110. The cost will be paid through PPEL funds as a contracted technology service. The low bid from CDW-G for the 7th through 12th grade student Chromebooks for $142,350 was approved. This is for 325 devices, a three year extended warranty and 4 years accidental damage protection,licensing and white glove service by the company.
A literacy curriculum purchase agreement was approved with SAAVAS MyView for grades K through 5 for $74,593.
Fundraisers for the FCCLA program, Dance Team, Post Prom and South Hamilton Music Boosters were all approved by the school board along with youth football, volleyball and cheer camps.
The next scheduled meeting for the South Hamilton School Board will be on Monday,July 8th.
