The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip to Jefferson to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Jefferson Softball Park. South Hamilton entered at 7-8, while Greene County entered at 3-9.
Greene County was the first to jump on the board, putting up 3 runs in the 1st to take a 3-0 lead. That lead would hold until the Rams built on it with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to jump ahead 5-0. South Hamilton got on the board in the 5th, putting up 3 runs, including an Ashlyn Erickson 2-run RBI single, to cut the score to 5-3. Greene County would score 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to go up 7-3, as South Hamilton would mount a rally in the 7th, putting up 2 runs in the frame, but the game ended with the tying run at 1st as Greene County held on 7-5.
Ashlyn Erickson would go 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Tanna Thompson went 2-for-4 on the day. Jillian Hesse was charged with the loss, pitching 6 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits and striking out 4.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they host Perry in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School at 6 PM.
