The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Friday and Saturday, as they competed in the Dave Lee Tournament, hosted by BCLUW in Conrad. South Hamilton entered the weekend with a 5-7 record.
South Hamilton would take down AGWSR on Friday by a score of 9-8. AGWSR would put up 7 runs in the 2nd, followed by a run in the 3rd to go up 8-0. The Hawks responded by putting up 9 runs in the 3rd to take a 9-8 lead, and take home a 9-8 win after the timer ran out. Kendra Hoversten would go 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, a single and a double, while Sydnee Flaugh went 1-for-3 with a 2-RBI single. Jillian Hesse pitched 5 innings, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 6 hits and 4 strikeouts.
The Hawks returned on Saturday and came away with another 1-run victory, this time a 9-8 decision over the hosts in BCLUW. Makena Galetich went 1-for-4 with 4 RBI, a double and a sac fly, while Ashlyn Erickson went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 singles. Galetich also picked up the win, pitching 6 innings, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits and striking out 4.
(2A) #6 Sumner-Fredericksburg would shutout South Hamilton to end the day by a final of 8-0, as Tanna Thompson, Emma Lammers, Kendra Hoversten and Claire Hewitt recorded the Hawks hits.
South Hamilton improved their record to 7-8, and return to action on Monday when they host Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 7:30 PM.
