The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton entered with a record of 5-6, while Saydel entered at 5-2.
Saydel got things rolling in the top of the 1st putting 3 runs behind a Hunter Tenborh 2-run RBI triple and a throwing error from Hawk catcher Kendra Hoversten to put the Eagles up 3-0. Saydel would add another run in the 3rd, as Colbie Tenborg drove in Dakoda Wright on an RBI double to make it 4-0. South Hamilton wouldn’t get on the board until the 6th, with 3 runs in the frame of an RBI single from Sydnee Flaugh, Makena Galetich scoring on a Saydel error and an Emma Lammers RBI double to make the score 4-3. Saydel would add a big insurance run in the 7th on a Hawk error to make it 5-3, before the Eagles shut down the Hawks in the bottom of the 7th for the 5-3 victory.
Emma Lammers would go 1-for-2 on the night with her RBI double, while Makena Galetich was charged with the loss, pitching 7 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and 5 strikeouts.
South Hamilton returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Conrad for the Dave Lee Invitational and take on AGWSR at 5 PM.
