Roland-Story baseball uses big 6th inning to down South Hamilton, 10-5

The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks baseball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, renewing their longstanding rivalry at Norsemen Field in Story City in Heart of Iowa Conference action. Roland-Story entered at 8-5, while South Hamilton entered at 2-6.

Wednesday started on the right foot for South Hamilton driving in 4 runs in the top of the 1st off Norsemen starter Cael Faber, chasing him after 2/3rds of an inning. Roland-Story would bounce back, plating 3 runs in the 1st and 2 runs in the second to hold a 5-4 lead. The score would serve until South Hamilton drove in a run in the top of the 5th off Owen Duns 2nd RBI Double of the night to tie the game at 5-5. The Norsemen would chase Landon Sogard off the mound in the 6th after taking a 6-5 lead, as errors would creep up on South Hamilton in the frame, allowing 4 more runs to score to put Roland-Story up 10-5 before the Norsemen closed it out in the 7th.

Sam Knoll would go 2-for-3 on the night with 3 RBI, while William Zamzow went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Aiden Frey picked up the win, relieving Cael Faber and pitching 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 5 batters. Owen Duns would go 2-for-4 for South Hamilton, with 2 doubles and 3 RBI on the night. Landon Sogard would go 5.1 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits and striking out 4 batters.

Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Friday, when they host a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader with conference-leader West Marshall beginning at 5 PM. South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they host Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 7:30 PM.
