The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Monday night, as the Norsemen welcomed in the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Hennessey Diamonds in Roland. Roland-Story entered at 1-5, while Nevada entered at 2-6.
Roland-Story would take the initial lead off a Miley Geise RBI double in the 1st to go up 1-0. After a scoreless 2nd, Nevada took the lead with 3 runs in the 3rd off RBI from Kylie Taylor and Melanie Khounsourath to take a 3-1 lead. The Norsemen would respond in kind, with Peyton Jeter hitting an RBI single, then followed by a Miley Geise 2-run home run to give the Norsemen a 4-3 lead. Roland-Story added 2 runs in the 4th off a 2-run RBI double from Keely Oberender to take a 6-3 lead. The 5th would see Nevada come alive offensively with 8 runs to take an 11-6 lead, cut to 11-7 after a Norsemen run in the bottom of the frame. Roland-Story would then mount a comeback and drive in 5 runs in the 6th to take a 12-11 lead, and Addy Sabatino would close out the win in the 7th.
Miley Geise would go 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, 2 doubles and 5 RBI, while also pitching 4.1 innings, allowing 9 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 4 strikeouts. Addy Sabatino picked up the win pitching 2.2 innings in relief, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and striking out 5. Keely Oberender and Kate Berggren each drove in 2 runs as well.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Collins to take on (1A) #11 Collins-Maxwell in non-conference action at 7:15 PM.
