The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Norsemen Field in Story City. Roland-Story entered Monday with a 7-5 record, while Nevada entered at 5-3.
Nevada jumped on the board first with a Drake Hinson RBI single in the 1st to lead 1-0, but Roland-Story responded in the 2nd with 6 runs off 2 Nevada errors as well as a 2-run RBI single from William Zamzow to take a 6-1 lead. The Norsemen put 3 more runs up in the 3rd off an RBI single from Brett Schmitz and a suicide squeeze from Sam Knoll to take a 9-1 lead. Nevada would add a run in the 4th, while Roland-Story added a run in the 5th to bring the score to 10-2. The Cubs added 5 runs in the 6th inning to bring the score to 10-7, but Aiden Frey would come up and pick up the save for a 10-7 win for Roland-Story.
Brett Schmitz picked up the win, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and striking out 7 batters, while also going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. William Zamzow would go 1-for-3 with a 2-run RBI single.
Roland-Story returns to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Tama to take on the South Tama Trojans at 7 PM.
