The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip to Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions at Lions Field in Clear Lake. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows entered at 2-5, while Clear Lake entered at 2-3.
Clear Lake would put 2 runs up in the 1st to take a 2-0 lead, but CGD would plate 3 runs in the 2nd to take a 3-2 lead. The Cowboys would not stop there, putting up 4 runs in the 3rd to give CGD a 7-2 lead. Clear Lake got a run back in the bottom of the 3rd, but CGD responded 3 runs of their own in the top of the 4th to go up 10-3. Clear Lake would score 2 runs in the 4th to make it 10-5, but the Cowboys pitching staff would lock down the 6th and 7th to clinch a 10-5 victory.
Caden Hankins got the victory as the starting pitcher, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits and striking out 4 batters, while Brandon Stein drove in 3 runs on 3 drawn walks. Ethan Hasty would also drive in 2 runs on the night, drawing a walk and 2 hit by pitches.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Belmond-Klemme at 4 PM.
