The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip to Story County to take on the Nevada Cubs at Nevada High School. South Hamilton entered at 1-4, while Nevada entered at 2-3.
South Hamilton wasted little time in jumping on the Cubs, putting up 6 runs in the first 2 innings to take a 6-1 lead. The Hawks then built on their lead with 6 more runs in the 4th to take a 12-1 lead. Nevada answered back with 2 runs in the 4th to make it 12-3, before South Hamilton put up 3 runs in the 6th before closing out a 15-3, 6-inning victory. 8th Grader Emma Lammers would have a monster night, going 2-for-5 with a home run, a single and 6 RBI. Makena Galetich would pitch all 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 6, while also belting her first home run of the year.
The Hawks followed up with traveling to the Hudson Tournament in the Waterloo metro on Saturday, as they opened their day with a 9-2 loss to Dike-New Hartford. Ashlyn Erickson would go 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Tanna Thompson, Sydnee Flaugh, Makena Galetich, Kendra Hoversten and Lillie Ammerman all recorded hits.
South Hamilton got back into the win column with an 8-4 win over Denver. Freshman Jillian Hesse went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a triple, while Makena Galetich, Ashlyn Erickson, Emma Lammers and Lillie Ammerman all added RBI of their own. Galetich would pitch all 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and struck out 1 batter.
The final game of the day saw South Hamilton down Dunkerton by a final of 10-2, as Tanna Thompson would go 1-for-3 with a 2-run home run. Makena Galetich would go 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI, while Jillian Hesse pitched all 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and striking out 7.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Monday, as they host (3A) #14 PCM at South Hamilton High School in Jewell.
