The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the #2 team in Class 2A in the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 2-2, while West Marshall entered at 8-1.
West Marshall would hop on the board right away with a Beckham Desotel RBI double in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead, followed by an Owen Siegert RBI single in the 2nd to push the lead to 2-0. South Hamilton would respond in the 3rd, as Tjerdan Johnson tagged an RBI double into right center that scored Ty Koehnk to cut the score to 2-1. West Marshall responded with an Evan Siegert RBI Double in the 4th to push the score to 3-1, before a Noah Desotel added another run in the 5th to make it 4-1. South Hamilton picked up another run in the 6th as Owen Duns scored while Landon Sogard was caught in a rundown to make it 4-2, but Noah Desotel’s sac fly in the 7th pushed the lead to 5-2. South Hamilton was unable to plate a run in the 7th as West Marshall took away a 5-2 win.
Beckham Desotel had the top day at the plate for the Trojans, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and 2 doubles, while Owen Duns went 2-for-3 for South Hamilton with a double. Preston Van De Pol pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 runs, 3 earned off 5 hits and 4 strikeouts.
