The Webster City Lynx softball team opened their 2024 season on Friday night, as they hosted the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School.
Defense would rule the first couple of innings, but Algona threatened in the top of 4th with a pair of runners on, as senior Paige Vileta delivered with a 3-run home run to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Webster City would answer with 2 runs in the 5th to make it 3-2, before taking the lead in the bottom of the 6th with 2 runs at 4-3. Delainey Bargfrede would shut the door in the 7th as the Lynx held on for a 4-3 win.
Bargfrede pitched all 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and struck out 10 in the win. Lydia VanDeer would drive in 2 runs thanks to an RBI double, while Breanna Bahrenfuss, Addy Tesdahl and Ellie Weinschenk added hits as well.
Webster City returns to action on Tuesday, as they host Storm Lake in non-conference action.
