The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Friday night, as they opened their North Central Conference schedule by taking on the Algona Bulldogs at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 1-2, while Algona entered at 3-2.
The Bulldogs would strike first with a run in the 2nd to make it 1-0, before putting 3 runs on the board in the 3rd to make it 4-0. The lead continued to grow for Algona with a run in the 5th, and then 2 runs each in the 6th and 7th to finalize the 9-0 shutout.
Algona junior Tate Slagle had a dominant outing, striking out 15 batters in 6.1 innings of work, while also belting a home run and 2 RBI at the plate. Jaxon Griffith had the top day at the plate for the Lynx, going 2-for-2 with a single and a double. Keegan Hisler was charged with the loss, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings, with 5 strikeouts.
Webster City returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Storm Lake.
